Responsible Design, Integration, and Use of Generative AI in Mental Health

This article is the editorial for a special issue, the first of its kind, which included a collection of articles on the subject of integrating creative artificial intelligence in mental health. It presents the main topics in the special issue, whose articles include reference to existing possibilities for artificial intelligence systems to identify emotions, summarize therapy conversations, and assess risks, and addresses the challenge of validating such artificial intelligence tools. It also addresses the issue of biases, empathy in the context of artificial intelligence, and thinking about adopting human-oriented ethical approaches, such as the ethics of care, in artificial intelligence work.

An Ethical Perspective on the Democratization of Mental Health With Generative AI

Making knowledge accessible through technology has moved to another stage with the introduction of the use of creative artificial intelligence as a means accessible to the general public. The article highlights the potential of this technology to make mental health care accessible and provide personalized responses while undermining traditional hierarchies between therapist and patient, but addresses the ethical, professional, and social complexities involved. The article also includes a framework for evaluating artificial intelligence tools in the field of mental health, to examine how well they balance the benefits with the associated risks.
