Responsible AI in Medicine Seminar (May 2023) In this meeting, Prof. Vardit Ravitsky, Incoming President of the Hastings Center describes the NIH “Bridge to AI” initiative, a novel approach to integrating AI into biomedical research by generating databases designed in advance for the responsible use of trustworthy AI. Prof. Ravitsky describes the bioethics research embedded in this initiative to ensure data collection is equitable and governed by principles that protect participants, illustrating this work through the “Voice as a biomarker” project, which aims to collect thousands of voice samples to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and speech-related conditions. The discussion, moderated by Dr. Oren Asman, Director elect of the Samueli Initiative for Responsible AI in Medicine at Tel Aviv University, reveals many of the challenges in planning and executing an AI Ethics informed medical research, and raises normative and philosophical questions yet to be discussed in the near future.
