Prof. Yechiel Michael Bar-Ilan, Department of Medical Education, Tel Aviv University, delivered a lecture on “Medical Ethics and AI-Based Decision-Making” at the national conference of the Responsible AI in Medicine Initiative at Tel Aviv University, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, on May 5, 2025.

In his talk, Bar-Ilan addressed the risks arising from the combination of public excitement around AI, the opacity that sometimes characterizes understanding how it works, and the human tendency to shift responsibility to an external and even mysterious agent. He noted that the heightened interest in AI is driven mainly by economic motives, while the opacity stems from the lack of a commonly agreed definition of the concept itself.
