Prof. Ido Wolf, Head of the School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, in his lecture “AI – From Medical Education to Clinical Practice” discussed the dramatic impact of AI on the field of medicine, from medical education to clinical work. He presented studies showing that large language models (LLMs) can outperform physicians in board examinations and assist in medical summarization, while highlighting the circumstances in which such models can be faster and preferable to maintain.
He emphasized the importance of adapting medical education to the era of AI, considering approaches such as collaborative work with AI models, physicians supervising multiple AI systems, and fostering original and innovative thinking both in clinical research and in medical practice at large for the physicians of the future. The lecture was delivered as part of the first national conference of the Responsible AI in Medicine Initiative at Tel Aviv University, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, on May 5, 2025.
